SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, February 21 2017, at approximately 1:52 p.m., Officer Juan Zepeda and Sergeant Jeremy Bledsoe responded to a report of a residential burglary in progress on the 900 block of East Virginia Way. The reporting party advised dispatch that they saw four black male juveniles wearing black sweaters running from the house carrying a television.
Barstow Police Department Detectives arrived within minutes and set up a perimeter around the location. As detectives were searching the area, they observed two subjects matching the description of the possible suspects. Detectives attempted to contact the two suspects but upon seeing the detectives, both of the suspects fled. The detectives pursued the suspects and apprehended them in the immediate area. Officers continued to search for the remaining suspects and found one of the suspects hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 1100 block of Lillian Drive. Officers surrounded the residence and as they entered the backyard, the suspect began running from them. The officers were able to apprehend the suspect before he was able to leave the backyard. Officers checked the area where the suspect had been hiding and located a flat screen television and several pieces of jewelry, which they suspected were stolen property. Officers searched the three suspects and located additional pieces of jewelry in their possession
Officers and detectives responded to the original scene and confirmed that a burglary had occurred to a residence in the 900 block of East Virginia Way. Barstow Police Department Evidence Technicians responded to the scene and processed it for additional evidence. The owners of the residence were able to provide officers with a list of the property stolen from their residence, which included a flat screen television, jewelry, and two Play station game consoles.
The victims positively identified the television and the jewelry that the officers located where one of the suspects was hiding and the jewelry the suspects had in their possession as theirs. Detectives continued to search the area and located the two Play Station game consoles in an alley near the residence. Detectives returned all of the stolen property to the victims.
All three juveniles were booked at the San Bernardino County Juvenile Detention Center in Apple Valley, California for PC 459 – Residential Burglary.
