Residential Organic Waste Recycling is HERE!
SB 1383 - Reducing Short Lived Climate Pollutants in California is a State law which will became effective January 1, 2022 and sets aggressive targets for Californians to reduce organic waste (food scraps & landscape waste) disposal by 75% by 2025 and increase edible food recovery by 20% by 2025. This is part of a statewide effort to reduce emissions of short lived climate pollutants like methane, which is considered a super pollutant 85x more potent than carbon dioxide. Organic waste in landfills emits 20% of the state's methane.
On June 20, 2022, the City Council approved the implementation of the SB 1383 residential organic waste collection and recycling program. The program became effective July 1, 2022.
