A property that is vacant for 30 or more consecutive days may be eligible for a vacancy exemption per Barstow Municipal Code Section 6.20.330.

Vacancy Exemption Application
- Applications must be signed by the property owner and a copy(ies) of electric or water utility bills/statements/usage history/letter (any official documentation from electric or water company) showing no or low utility usage for the vacancy period must be attached. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
- It is the responsibility of the property owner to renew the application within 30 days of the last day of each billing cycle if the property remains vacant. The City automatically bills in advance of services provided.
- Upon expiration of the exemption, collection service and billing will resume unless the owner requests a new exemption for a vacant property, following the procedure set forth in the Barstow Municipal Code 6.20.330(b) (1-5).
- Only when an exemption is renewed for 12 consecutive months will the property become eligible for an annual exemption covering the next year.
