Illegal Dumping

Bad behavior by a few, costs all of us in our community.

Unfortunately, illegal dumping happens all too often, but if activity is properly reported it makes a difference!

The City provides convenient means for reporting illegal dumping:

  • If dumping is in the public right of way (alley, street) contact the Solid Waste Department at 760.255.5126.
  • If on private property, contact Code Compliance 760.255.5190.
  • Reports can be made easily online though the Contact Us section on our website. Tip: Snap a photo!

If illegal dumping is in progress in the City, immediately call the City of Barstow Police Department at 760.256.2211 and if in the County call the Sheriff's Department at 760.256.4841.

There are signs posted in many areas of the community with the We-Tip Hotline information to encourage proper reporting of this activity for a possible reward!

The hotline for WeTip is 1-800-78-CRIME (800) 782-7463.  You can report illegal dumping anonymously on weeknights, weekends and holidays.

There are many programs available for people to dispose of their trash instead of resorting to illegal dumping, which include:

  • Residential, Multi-family and Commercial Bulky Item Pickup Programs.
  • Residential Drop Off Collection Center program for appliances, e-waste, tires, landscape waste, scrap metal to Burrtec’s Yard.
  • Bi-Annual Free Dump Day and Shred Fest events.
  • Household Hazardous Waste Collection Site which is open to both City and County residents.
  • Adopt A Block neighborhood Cleanup Program.
  • Residential Free Dump Pass Program.
  • We encourage people to check with local organizations on whether they accept donated items including textiles.

For more information on any of these programs contact 760.255.5126. Thanks for doing your part!
