4th District Councilwoman Marilyn Dyer-Kruse, a lifelong resident of Barstow, was elected to the Barstow City Council on November 3, 2020. Councilwoman Dyer-Kruse has been a community advocate with passionate dedication towards increasing educational and vocational opportunities for our families, children, and working adults.
Councilwoman Dyer-Kruse has served in various roles over the past 25 years as a parent volunteer, after school tutor, as well as having had the privilege of sitting on multiple educational oversite councils for the Lenwood School, Barstow Middle and High School.
From 1995-2000 Councilwoman Dyer-Kruse was committed to excellence in education by having had the opportunity to serve on the accreditation teams and for Barstow Unified School District’s Principals and Superintendent selection-committees.
In 2001, Councilwoman Dyer-Kruse served as Chairperson for Barstow Unified School District’s Ballot Measure “C” as well as having served on the Measure “C” Oversight Committee from 2002-2008. Measure “C” revenues in the amount of $14 million dollars were raised for general reconstruction and renovation of Barstow High School.
Her dedication as Executive Board Secretary and Barstow College Foundation Board Member, exemplified her commitment to the students of our community by expanding educational opportunities through scholarships and countless hours of direct support for our local community college.
Councilwoman Dyer-Kruse served as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Barstow from 2015-2020 where she applied her background in business to help successfully approve projects to increase economic development opportunities throughout the city.
Councilwoman Dyer-Kruse has always maintained a pro-business/pro-growth approach in approving economic opportunities for our residents and families; she has been happily married for 39 years, has one son and a beautiful granddaughter.
