To maximize resources and in order to provide the highest level of policing service to the Barstow community, the department has divided the City into three patrol Beats: Western, Downtown, and College Heights. At any given time, there are 1-2 officers actively patrolling each Beat. This does not count Detectives, the Crime Impact Team, or other police personnel on duty. 

In November of 2021, the department re-structured the Beats based on population and the number of anticipated service calls.
